The Global Innovation Index 2013

Do you know where the United States ranks on the Global Innovation Index for 2013?  The answer is below.

The Global Innovation Index (GII) is published by Cornell University, INSEAD (“Institut Européen d’Administration des Affaires” or European Institute of Business Administration), and the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO).  The GII looked at 142 economies world wide, using 84 indicators to gauge innovation capabilities.  Its Knowledge Partners and a board of 14 international experts helped provide input in selecting this year’s leaders.

United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-moon, the authors of the report, and the Knowledge Partners presented the findings at the High Level Segment of the United Nations’ Economic and Social Council held July 1-4 in Geneva.

The United States came in #5 on the Global Innovation Index.  The top 10 were:

1) Switzerland (1)
2) Sweden (2)
3) The United Kingdom (5)
4) The Netherlands (6)
5) The United States (10)
6) Finland (4)
7) Hong Kong (China) (8)
8) Singapore (3)
9) Denmark (7)
10) Ireland (9)

The numbers in parantheses are the rankings from 2012.   The US has moved up 5 places since last year, thanks to all our great universities, investors and inventors like you.
