A series of classic photography books will now be published in Chinese after a Beijing-based publishing company purchased the Asian rights to them from the Museum of Modern Art.

This marks the first time a publishing company from mainland China has acquired publishing rights from the Museum of Modern Art. The transaction was facilitated by attorney Harry Du of Gearhart Law. Gearhart Law is a patent and trademark law firm in Summit New Jersey, and represented Post Wave in the transfer agreements. The transaction reflects continuing interchanges between the US and China on cultural topics.

Postwave Publishing Company, based in Beijing, China obtained the Asian Publishing rights to several of the well-known books, including: “Henri Cartier-Bresson: The Modern Century,” entitled “Looking at Photographs: 100 Photographs from the Collection of The Museum of Modern Art” by John Szarkowski, and “The History of Photography”by Beaumont Newhall.
